If I can remember it, they have a term for this fear of dentist. It’s called dentophobia. It’s one of the real reason why some won’t even bother thinking of going to the dentist. Just thinking about it can make them shiver and shake with…fear. That’s why, in denistry, some dentists has come up with many different and various options or remedies or procedures to make a patient’s visit pleasant and pain-free and of course, anxiety-free and one of the options that is actually being used by dentists is sleep dentistry.
Before the actual procedure, the dentist will administer sedative drugs to put the patient in a sort of semi-sleep state so he may be unable to hear the whining noise or hear them faintly, the smell of dentures or grinding of teeth against metal and won’t be able to feel the pain. Not only it can be painless but the procedure can be much faster as well. When he wakes up, he will won’t have absolutely no recollection of what has transpired during the whole procedure. What he can think of last is the pleasant drowsiness he felt.
Since the whole procedure of a dental problem requires more than one session, this is the best option in denistry. They sometimes require 6 to 8 visits before the whole session is complete. With sleep denistry, this will be reduced to only one visit. Therefore, not only this will be less painful for the patient but it can also help him save a lot of time and money.
Imagine going to the doctor, say every weekend, for six to eight times and you have to sacrifice or put into compromise your other social activities and other responsibilities plus you get to pay the dentist in all sessions. So, with sleep denistry, you save a lot of money, you save a lot of time and you save yourself from all those pains and agony.
