Dental Schools Now Offering More Than One Painless Dental Courses To Dentists

You may be elated to know that dental schools today are offering painless tooth extraction technique courses to your favorite dentist and why should you be elated? If you’re one of those who feel intimidated by the doctor’s tools of pain for extracting your tooth, then, you should be.

Some of these courses include sedation dentistry, laser dentistry and even sleep dentistry. The third one is the latest and not only it can help the patient feel relaxed but he will really feel no pain at all because, logically speaking, he’ll be in Sleepville while the doctor is extracting a tooth or two from his mouth.

There are many reasons why dental schools have come up with so many options with regards to dental procedures and one of them is the anxiety or the fear that most dental patients are experiencing. You may have heard of somebody who is really afraid to go to the dentist and maybe, you are one of them, huh? Well, today, starting right now, they don’t have to feel fear, phobia or anxiety when going to a dentist. A lot of good dentists today are offering sedation dentistry to their patients.

This kind of procedure is mostly highly recommended to patients who experience anxiety when going to the dentist. If you are experiencing such feeling, then, by all means, you are qualified and is a likely candidate for sedation dentistry. By administering a sedative before the dental procedure, your sedation dentist will help you relax throughout your procedure.

There are actually three types of sedation. There is this conscious oral sedation, nitrous oxide sedation and there is even intravenous sedation. Sedation dentistry involves taking a combination of pain reliever and sedation drug so that a patient will be in a semi-sleep state, so to speak. Of the three, the most common is oral sedation. A patient will just have to take a pill before the treatment. He will be awake during the whole procedure and can still communicate with his dentist but can’t feel any pain, can’t smell the metal against the enamel and what seems to be hours sitting in a dentist’s chair will only feel as if he sat there for a few minutes.

Another type of procedure that dental schools are teaching dentists today is laser dental procedure. This procedure is much more painless, bloodless and it can be done with pinpoint accuracy. The surrounding tissues that are healthy are not affected during the laser procedure.

Laser dentistry offers patients several important benefits. However, as of this time, there are only around 5% of the dental offices in a given population that presently have the equipment to perform laser procedures. As patients realize the advantages of laser treatments in oral health as well as in cosmetic dentistry, the number of offices offering laser dentistry is sure to rise significantly. But for others this is a very expensive treatment in dental care.

So, those are just some of the procedures that dental schools are teaching dentists today. For the patients, this is very advantageous to them. They will now be more than cooperative and happy to go to their dentist and have themselves subjected to dental procedures which can give the ultimate and best dental and oral health that can also promote over-all health for both body and mind.
