Many dental patients can be intimidated and frightened just to have their tooth pulled. Some even decline undergo dental procedures like dental implants or putting braces or retainers because of fear. Unfortunately, if they have problems with cavities or misaligned teeth, things can go worse for them in the long run.
With this in mind, dentists and dental hygienists have come up with options for the anxiety-ridden patients to help them have a pain-free dental procedure. If you are equally frightened and intimidated by your dentist’s tools of pain, ask him about these three options: laser, sedation and sleep dentistry.
Even these dental hygienists are also well-versed with these types of procedures. So, what is a dental hygienist, anyway, and how do they differ with dentists? Right now, one of the most thriving and interesting career is that of a dental hygienist. If you care to know about the income capabilities of a good dental hygienist, well, they should be earning just like what dentists are earning. Sometimes, there are some of them who are more adept and knowledgeable than the dentists when it comes to dental and oral hygiene. If you would like to become one, with a degree from an accredited dental hygiene school and a license to, you will be able to embark on a wonderful journey which will be prosperous and challenging. However, another important question to ask before dedicating yourself to this dental profession is what do dental hygienists do?
As what have been mentioned, a dental hygienist is different from a dentist. However, they are more like an apprentice to a dentist as they usually work side by side with a dentist. The main duties of a dental hygienist is to remove the hard or soft deposits of plaque that have formed on the patent's teeth and look over the patient's teeth to determine if there are any dental problems or possible diagnosis of a forming dental disease. This is very important since those problems would hinder the procedures that a dentist would want to administer.
However, the major role of a dental hygienist is to help patients learn more about the proper dental and oral hygiene and care. There are a lots of people who would walk into a dentist’s clinic but don’t have any idea about this at all. However, there is a technique and a routine that is involved in good dental hygiene and the dental hygienist is an expert in this.

Dental Schools Now Offering More Than One Painless Dental Courses To Dentists
You may be elated to know that dental schools today are offering painless tooth extraction technique courses to your favorite dentist and why should you be elated? If you’re one of those who feel intimidated by the doctor’s tools of pain for extracting your tooth, then, you should be.
Some of these courses include sedation dentistry, laser dentistry and even sleep dentistry. The third one is the latest and not only it can help the patient feel relaxed but he will really feel no pain at all because, logically speaking, he’ll be in Sleepville while the doctor is extracting a tooth or two from his mouth.
There are many reasons why dental schools have come up with so many options with regards to dental procedures and one of them is the anxiety or the fear that most dental patients are experiencing. You may have heard of somebody who is really afraid to go to the dentist and maybe, you are one of them, huh? Well, today, starting right now, they don’t have to feel fear, phobia or anxiety when going to a dentist. A lot of good dentists today are offering sedation dentistry to their patients.
This kind of procedure is mostly highly recommended to patients who experience anxiety when going to the dentist. If you are experiencing such feeling, then, by all means, you are qualified and is a likely candidate for sedation dentistry. By administering a sedative before the dental procedure, your sedation dentist will help you relax throughout your procedure.
There are actually three types of sedation. There is this conscious oral sedation, nitrous oxide sedation and there is even intravenous sedation. Sedation dentistry involves taking a combination of pain reliever and sedation drug so that a patient will be in a semi-sleep state, so to speak. Of the three, the most common is oral sedation. A patient will just have to take a pill before the treatment. He will be awake during the whole procedure and can still communicate with his dentist but can’t feel any pain, can’t smell the metal against the enamel and what seems to be hours sitting in a dentist’s chair will only feel as if he sat there for a few minutes.
Another type of procedure that dental schools are teaching dentists today is laser dental procedure. This procedure is much more painless, bloodless and it can be done with pinpoint accuracy. The surrounding tissues that are healthy are not affected during the laser procedure.
Laser dentistry offers patients several important benefits. However, as of this time, there are only around 5% of the dental offices in a given population that presently have the equipment to perform laser procedures. As patients realize the advantages of laser treatments in oral health as well as in cosmetic dentistry, the number of offices offering laser dentistry is sure to rise significantly. But for others this is a very expensive treatment in dental care.
So, those are just some of the procedures that dental schools are teaching dentists today. For the patients, this is very advantageous to them. They will now be more than cooperative and happy to go to their dentist and have themselves subjected to dental procedures which can give the ultimate and best dental and oral health that can also promote over-all health for both body and mind.

Sleep Denistry: A Painless & Sleepy Dentist’s Procedure
Everybody is aware of laser dentistry, right? But are they also aware of this “sleepy” procedure that many dentists are using today so that patients won’t feel any pains at all, as in, 100% pain-free and then, they can experience a relaxing and exciting (?) dental procedure? Well, it’s simply called sleep denistry. You see, going to the dentist can be painful and intimidating experience for most people.
So, these specialists have come up with this idea other than laser dentistry and sedation dentistry. But what’s the difference with sedation and sleep dentistry? The former is the use of sedatives to make the patient feel relaxed while the latter is completely putting him to sleep and he is not aware of what is going on. If you feel you are being unintentionally intimidated by your dentist, ask him about sleep denistry.
Sleep denistry can be also considered as sedation dentistry. It is a procedure where the dentist will sedate his patient with a combination of pain-relieving drugs and sedative drugs so that the patient won’t feel any pain while undergoing dental procedure such as tooth extraction. It is far much different from the usual anesthesia. This one will affect the whole body including the mind. The patient feels relaxed and anxiety-free and after the operation, he won’t have any recollection as to what has transpired.
But as of today, however, there are still a few dental clinics that are using this kind of treatment but the good news is, they are trying their best to include this on their list of services and they will expect higher number of patients. For some, this might be very expensive but as prices drop and the demand increases, it is expected that more and more dentists will offer this kind of services and more and more patients will enjoy the benefits of using sedation or sleep denistry for a painless and worry-free dental procedure.
However, the application of sleep denistry still lies on the decision of the patient. If he wants to be sedated, it should be done at least an hour before the actual procedure. And the amount of sedative drugs and pain relievers depends upon different factors: the person’s present state of health and/or the extent or the area to be treated.
It is also very important that the patient should have knowledge of his medical records, trying to find out if he has any underlying diseases or restrictions for certain drugs. He should also consult his personal physician prior to undergoing sleep denistry to find out if he is qualified for such procedure or not.

Latest Word in the World of Denistry
If I can remember it, they have a term for this fear of dentist. It’s called dentophobia. It’s one of the real reason why some won’t even bother thinking of going to the dentist. Just thinking about it can make them shiver and shake with…fear. That’s why, in denistry, some dentists has come up with many different and various options or remedies or procedures to make a patient’s visit pleasant and pain-free and of course, anxiety-free and one of the options that is actually being used by dentists is sleep dentistry.
Before the actual procedure, the dentist will administer sedative drugs to put the patient in a sort of semi-sleep state so he may be unable to hear the whining noise or hear them faintly, the smell of dentures or grinding of teeth against metal and won’t be able to feel the pain. Not only it can be painless but the procedure can be much faster as well. When he wakes up, he will won’t have absolutely no recollection of what has transpired during the whole procedure. What he can think of last is the pleasant drowsiness he felt.
Since the whole procedure of a dental problem requires more than one session, this is the best option in denistry. They sometimes require 6 to 8 visits before the whole session is complete. With sleep denistry, this will be reduced to only one visit. Therefore, not only this will be less painful for the patient but it can also help him save a lot of time and money.
Imagine going to the doctor, say every weekend, for six to eight times and you have to sacrifice or put into compromise your other social activities and other responsibilities plus you get to pay the dentist in all sessions. So, with sleep denistry, you save a lot of money, you save a lot of time and you save yourself from all those pains and agony.
